During that time, we have worked for SMEs, a large well-known retailer of pet products, a Premier League Football Club, a medium sized UK brewery (no jokes please), doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefs.
A key feature is that we can add on to package software to cover reporting with a non-technical interface, data capture, and small auxiliary products tailored to the customers wishes.
In 2013, we decided to branch into the growing games market and incorporated Mabel Apps LLP to cover both the commercial and games arms. This has allowed us to re-tool our skills to include web development and mobile apps while continuing to supply interfaces to databases (SQL Server, Access, MySql, JSON, XML).
The partners
Leon
Leon grew up in Los Angeles, California. He wrote his first computer program while in high school in Fortran. After attending Occidental College in Los Angeles for a B.A, he went to do an M.Sc. in Computer Science at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
After working for a year as a Fortran Database Administrator in the CAD Department at Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, he relocated to the UK. There, he took on Software Development jobs with three UK software houses.
He was responsible at that time to develop Ledger Accounting Software Packages. One of these, designed by Leon in 1979, passed the Millennium Bug Test 20 years later without alteration.
He lives in the Peak District of England. He likes all kinds of music, tries to find time to practice the piano (jazz and blues), and has a scruffy Golden Doodle dog named Maude.
Melissa
Melissa grew up in the Derbyshire Peak District. She received a Joint Honours B.A. in History and English at Leeds University before receiving an M.A. (with Merit) in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester.
She is into computer games in a big way, playing The Sims right from the start in the 90’s, to Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Sid Meier’s Civilization among other light classics. She has worked as a game reviewer. She is incredibly helpful in setting up websites.
Melissa has written four novels and works with authors on all things writing while taking care of her Bassetoodle dog, Zelda.
Kathy
Kathy also grew up in the Derbyshire Peak District. She runs the Administration of the business (and all its previous incarnations), and has done so for 20 years.
She is a dab hand at knitting and has her own business selling the wares. She also loves TV and devours novels by the dozen. All this makes her extremely good on the pub quiz team.
